Getting Ready For Our First Trip

I'd been waiting for what seemed like a million years for us to go on our first trip in Cleo and Phoenix, and the time had finally come!  We were going to embark on our very first trip to Lake Myers in Mocksville, North Carolina.  My mom booked our campground site for August the twenty-seventh, and we planned to set out that morning for Lake Myers, which was about an hour away.  The campground promised many fun activities, like mini golf, a pool, and canoeing.  I could hardly wait!  The days leading up to the twenty-seventh seemed to drag, but we kept busy and prepared Cleo and Phoenix for our trip.

Our first to-do was get some practice backing Cleo.  My grandpa and mom went out to help my dad back it into various parking spaces.  Next they went to empty the black tank (that's where all the waste goes- I know, gross, but necessary).  Thankfully I wasn't there for that particularly disgusting chore.

Cleo and Phoenix hitched up to go practice backing!

My parents bought various gadgets for Cleo, including walkie-talkies and food storage containers.

Mia and I created lists of 50 things we wanted to accomplish while RVing.  A few of my list items were: Find a four-leaf clover (which I have never done before), try a new food, and visit Yellowstone.  Some of the things on Mia's list were: see a tadpole, go kayaking, and go horseback riding.  Mia and I are super excited to start checking off list items, and I plan to write about our various list accomplishments on the blog!

We were able to see family and friends for one last time before we took off, which was great.  My aunt and her miniature Maltese, Millie, came to visit and check out Cleo, and it was good to see them.  Then I was able to go roller skating one last time with one of my best friends, Lillie.  We had a fantastic time together.  On Monday, we went to my great-grandma's house to visit with her, and we had a wonderful time... up until the end of dinner.

My mom was finishing dinner, I was in the living room doing schoolwork, and Mia was outside playing.  Then Mia came in, saying that she was hurt.  The injuries were bad enough that she had to be admitted to the hospital.  When Mia was able to come back home, we were overjoyed to be back together. As a result of Mia's unexpected hospital visit, our trip was rescheduled so that our departure date was August the twenty-ninth instead of August the twenty-seventh.  Although we suffered a setback, we are still going to Lake Myers, though it will be later than expected.  I am so thankful to everyone who prayed for Mia's quick recovery, your support means a lot to us.

                                                                            Reunited ❤

Even though Mia's unfortunate injury was a delay in our trip, it showed me what really mattered in this whole adventure.  When Mia and my mom were in the hospital and my dad and I were at home with Cleo, it was hard being separated.   But it made being back together again even better.  That experience showed me that what really is important isn't stuff, but rather your family and the people you love.
